17, maybe 18, 25 ...... you must be kidding me!
OK, OK, So the number I got on all of the work needed was lower than I expected, but certainly more than most of you(if anybody is actually reading this) will ever spend on your teeth. Do you really think that the numbers about above represent the $ figure for the huge amount of work I need done?? NOPE ....... the total ESTIMATED figure for all of my work is something OVER $36000.
So the question is, am I OK with this?? actually I'm fine with the quote, I was expecting something over $40 000, and although I may reach that level if extra work comes up I'm still fine. It will be nice when I can even eat the simple things without worrying which teeth I use or whether the pain from cold food will hit an exposed root ....it will be nice to eat my 3-5 pounds of grapes I take camping every summer:)
So here is what happened on Monday
Total Bill
$1446 ...... Running total $2181
Work performed
Root canal x2 ...both single root, front tooth
Tooth coloured restoration x2 .....this is in preparation for a crown on both teeth
This weeks session was nearly 150 minutes ..... when have you EVER been poked, stabbed and prodded for nearly 2 1/2 hours? All in all though it wasn't too painful though, It sure helps I had a cute blonde helping the dentist, but that actually a pet peeve of mine ..... why use cute chicks?? I want the average looking guy with good teeth helping, talk about my fear of being judged, based on my teeth, as a low life street person and not a nice guy fearful of the pain and loss of control that comes with going to the dentist, but bring in a little hottie and that fear gets multiplied by a factor of 100!
So next week it looks like they want a nice little $5000 deposit, to be used as a credit towards services .......time to get my limit upped on my Canadian Tire MasterCard, that way I'll have something to do for the 90 minutes while ridiculously numb faced "thaws out"!
Next appointment is the 13th of February, another little 2 hour session .....wish me luck!

The 2012 Dentistry Debacle ..........WEEK 2
This WAS the week that the pain began. While I didn't receive an estimate for the work to be done in the next few weeks the Dentist was kind enough to give me some ideas as to the differences in cost for things like implants VS bridges and the longevity of things like crowns VS implants.
Next week I should get a hard dollar figure, and a few cavities done, including some restorative work on my front teeth.
SO, this weeks session was about 70 minutes long, a few root removals and 1 tooth removal. I was also lucky enough to get a BUNCH of needles and surprisingly, with the exception of the 2 in the roof of my mouth, none of them hurt, no pinching or anything !
So here we go
Total Bill
$488 ....... Running total $735
Work performed
Surgical removal of root x4
Tooth removal
......................................
Looks like a 2 hour session next week, I just hope I remember the MP3 player this time, the sound of the drill DRIVES ME NUTS!

My 2012 dentistry debacle!!!
Maybe if I start blogging about all the dental work I'm getting done I might have the impetus to continue blogging about other stuff!
All I ask is that you don't freak out when you see what the work was, the amount, or question why I waited so long....I don't like, NAY, I HATE going to the dentist, and have greatly neglected my teeth for many years, partly because of the aforementioned "visit to the dentist" issue, partly because of my schedule making it very easy to hop in bed without brushing and partly because "hey, my teeth are bad already, does it REALLY matter if they get worse?".
Let's be honest, going to the dentist is one of those things that nobody enjoys, many tolerate it and most understand the need and simply "put up with it". Me, I was happy when people didn't know of my missing teeth, as long as it was a molar I was fine, and as long as I could sleep I was happy. The problem is that I've missed nights of sleep, actually I missed 3 nights in a row 6 years ago, I nearly drove into a house in Goodwood on my way home from work that morning .....I had my Dad drive me to the Hospital an hour later! I've also gotten bad headaches for years now, something I never got until my teeth started to decay and break and hurt and bleed and, and, and!
So here's my commitment, I'm looking at spending a very healthy portion of money(many thousands, MANY!) and time getting my teeth fixed, I am looking at 6 months, many fillings, extractions, caps AND implants to get my teeth into a position where I can smile and laugh like I love doing ...... trust me when I say that my friends notice(even if they don't say) that I laugh and guffaw with my mouth closed or head turned currently.
SO, as of next week when the work actually begins, I commit to NO MORE POP, not saying I'll be perfect, but after nearly 30 years of drinking Diet Pepsi and a lot of it, it needs to stop. The teeth I'm keeping won't last if I continue guzzling 10-12 2 litres a week. I'll also be looking at keeping my sugar intake to a minimum, add that to the fact that Ive started to pay attention to my salt intake in the last 6 months, and I should see a healthier me in the next 6 months ....maybe this will get me on the road to a complete lifestyle change .... diet too!
So here's the plan
-Toronto Street Dentistry
-Every Monday(unless I need more healing time or my Dentist takes a break ....from me:))
-Whatever the Dentist can do each visit
-All on my Canadian Tire CC, might as well get a few $$ back when I'm spending soo much!
-Posting the total amount spent AND what was done after each visit
---------------------------------------------
The 2012 Dentistry Debacle ..........WEEK ONE!
Total bill
$247
Work performed
Complete series of radiographs(x-rays)
Complete oral examination
--------------------------------------------

Maybe it's time to see a nutritionist or dietitian too....I'll have to look into this soon.
