Update on Lindsay, Britney, Paris ..... movie reviews

Should be a short post about "the girls"

Britney, a disaster on the VMA's, didn't move, didn't sing, lost her kids, and if I had a death pool, she'd be on it!

Paris, has left the stage .... and seems to be trying to turn herself into a mini Angelina Jolie, swearing she'll do better, going to 3rd world countries and such. Only the voters of Ontario would believe she's changed. Just temper the last statement with the fact that she also said she wanted to adopt 3 blonde haired kids and have them grow up to be just like her! Picture that...if you dare!

Lindsay, actually got her ass out of Hollywood for an extended period of rehab at an actual rehab clinic in Utah, part of her plea bargain no doubt. Let's just hope she's learned that she not invincible.

......................................

Quick movie reviews

Eastern Promises .......... 80%

Viggo Mortensen
Naomi Watts

This is a ultra violent film directed by David Cronenburg about London based crime gangs and the perils of crime hierarchy, and the phyche of a "driver" for a mob family. There is a lot more to this driver than meets the eye.

This is a star defining roll for Viggo, although I really didn't need to see him naked, I see a Academy Award nom for this roll.

In the Valley of Elah ....... 78%

Tommy Lee Jones
Charlize Theron

What a war will do to a soldier and his family.

Overly long and quite slow, but compelling and emotional well written, this is Tommy Lee Jones's defining role as an actor.

3:10 to Yuma ..... 84%

Russell Crowe
Christian Bale

An old fashion western with 2 top notch actors.

"A complicated cowboy flick where you're conflicted about whether to root for the guys in the white hats or the black hats by the time the big showdown arrives."

Kam Williams ...NewsBlaze

and

"The best Western since Unforgiven, 3:10 to Yuma is both cathartic and intelligent. While a wildly eventful action-adventure and outlaw shoot-'em-up, it's also a vibrant story of heroism, villainy and hard-earned redemption."

Bruce Westbrook .... Houston Chronicle

Enough said:)

I'm BBbbaaaacckk!

Honestly,I never thought I was so lazy when it came to updating this blog. Suffice it to say I AM:)

SSooo many thing to post about, so many things that have gone wrong in this Country, let's start.

-Youth violence-

So many kids with so little respect, I've heard horror stories about kids spitting at seniors getting off buses, showing no respect for young kids by speaking like a trucker with verbal diarrhea. We've also got the joy of kids getting stabbed, or threatened for simply having an Ipod. Little 12 year old girls being threatened with violence for a few bucks in their pockets.

My opinion ... same as before .... toughen up the YCJA ..... make it 14 for violent offences, and lengthen terms(5 times what they are now), instead of 18 months for robbery with a weapon make it 7-8 years.

- The newly imposed 50mph over the limit law

- Although I whole-heartedly agree that nobody needs to go 150KPH on the highway, this new law gives police WAY too much power. They now have the right to suspend a license and tow a car for 7 days based on anything they want, squeal a tire and the cops wants to be a prick, you can say goodbye to your car for a week. It doesn't have to be a major offense, and even if you win a court case it's still on your record, and that means the Insurance industry can, AND WILL increase your rates. Also don't forget the towing an storage costs.

Hasn't everybody come to a turn too quickly and their tires make a squealing when you go around the corner?? Hasn't everybody revved a car up to much(touchy clutch, different shoes ETC..) and accidentally squawked a tire??

Sure, everybody caught going 50 over CAN and SHOULD be charged with racing, but the law should be for speeding offenses NOT regular driving offenses. OH, you can also lose your car based on Hearsay from other drivers, YEP, a couple of people say you were driving aggressively and BAM goodbye car! Just food for thought.

- The dollar being at par

Sure, it's fun for a little while. it feels great to buy a few things from the States, but at what cost?? Don't forget that Canada relies on the U.S. for a HUGE percentage of trade, and we count on this trade for the majority of our income. We;ve already started to see a slowdown. I'd be quite happy with the dollar sitting somewhere in the 85 cent range.

The only really good thing to come out of this is the uproar over the amount of gouging that wholesalers and retailer have been forcing the consumer to pay. It's easy to compare prices when you can look for the indentical product in the States with the same dollar, and people are seeing the HUGE difference in prices we pay. Just look at the difference between a 2008 Corvette in the U.s. VS the price in Canada ......$46 110 U.s. VS $69 500 Canadian ... a $23 390 difference ...HUH ... we're paying a 50% premium .... sure, based on economy of scale we SHOULD be paying a little more, say 10%, but 50%??

The Provincial Election

UGH, Am I correct in assuming that people believe it's better to have the devil you know in power over the devil you don't know??

Dalton McGuinty is a pathetic choice for Premier of Ontario, but as is the way, Ontario latches on to the silliest of things and doesn't let go. The year was the separate school funding mess, The Tories were for the Liberals against. I wonder why people don't see that Mr M simply lied to us from the beginning, "no new taxes" was his declaration last election and within 3 months he pulled the largest single tax increase ever out of his ass. What about the "taxpayers promise" that he made when he was elected remember the pledge he drafted and signed when he got into office?? That was quickly forgotten, and people still voted this bugger in UGH!

Brent .... more to come!

P.s. The new Accord looks GREAT!

The trip is really happening, let the planning begin!

Well it looks like I really am going out East this summer. Here's the basic dates.

Leave .... Thursday, August 17, 2007 at about 4a.m.
Arriving ...Tuesday, August 28, 2007 after lunch.

Now I would have loved to have planned a trip that included Newfoundland, but I simply couldn't justify the cost of the ferry ride there and back(around $250). So it looks like I'll hit New Brunswick for a night and 2 days, Nova Scotia and PEI for about the same, and Quebec's Gaspe Peninsula for a couple of days before heading to Quebec City to check out the old part, and finally home after that.

I do fear that I'll enjoy the lifestyle so much that I won't want to come home, but I may also get home sick ..... Ha ha .........No probably not!

Now do I commemorate my trip with a Tattoo?? That, is the next decision!

We've got a deck

In a rather surprising, but good, turn of events, we went from dead grass in the backyard to an almost fully operational deck. Not badly built either, we had 5-6 people on it this past weekend and it didn't move a bit. One problem with hiring a handy man, they know lots about lots of things, but not everything. The one mistake he made when building the deck was spacing the deck boards .... he used a cigarette pack .... Yep, the spaces are about 1cm wide. Now I'd like to think that I would have noticed this when it was happening, but the problem was that I was sleeping when he out the deck boards on.

Any idea on how to correct this without taking everything off??

Picture to follow ... of both the good and the bad!

WOW, just WOW!

HA HA HA HA sniffle HA HA HA shrug!

Seriously,Between friends, employees, co-workers, and family, not one group has come forward and explained to Lindsay Lohan the route that she is headed, and I wonder why?

If you had a friend that was skipping work, getting high all the time, and driving under the influence wouldn't you tell them how it is, and hope that they have time to straighten it out??

I had a buddy that we tried to help, and as a last resort(and because we couldn't be there when he killed himself) his friends were forced to walk away. Ultimately his family(largely his Father) were able to get through to him when his friends weren't, and that's when he finally got help. He's been clean and sober for 7+ years now .... he now counsels and helps less fortunate people .....I'm proud of him!

So then why can't somebody in her group drag her ass out of Hollywood? Where is the infamous "wannabe" star Mother Dina? I know Lindsay went to rehab a few times, and the last seemed pretty heartfelt, she even stayed in an extra 30 days. The only problem was that she was in another Hollywood rehab and not a real rehab. How many rehabs let you bring your Blackberry, call friends, have gourmet meals and 1000 count bed sheets?? It's like going to a country club when you should be going to San Quentin.

I'm still hoping, but supposedly she sent an email to an entertainment show talking about her innocence. Sure Lindsay, your driving somebodies Yukon, under the influence, with cocaine in your pocket ....."it's not mine I swear ..... Uh huh!

I think some jail time makes sense, but she's already done so much damage that it's hard to see her being a hot commodity any time soon .....Shit, she has a new movie coming out Friday, and she was supposed to be on Leno the same day she got arrested! Wouldn't you just stay home to prepare for your first interview in 2 months?

Anyways!

P.s. Britney is getting ready to quack like a duck! Britney set up and interview with OK magazine, but she showed and was such a mess that OK cancelled the interview part way through .... What OK is doing instead is an account of all the strange goings on during the interview ..... should be a good read.

P.P.s. Looks like Kevin "waste of skin" Federline is the better parent ....OH MY!

A bunch of posts ..... Including what I'm going to see on my Birthday

Paris, Britney, and Lindsay .....Oy vey!

Do anybody here know any "young  adults", say kids between 18 and 25?? OK,  Now turn on any entertainment show and be startled and amazed and how little these people resemble the Hollywood  version!

_________________________________________

Paris .... Uhm.. Where are your parents!

A fashion icon, a published musician, and an actress! a sign of the apocalypse?

To think that somebody with an I.Q. slightly higher than dry toast has become famous for just that reason turns my stomach. Now I understand how "tween's" latch on to anything with style, and God knows that's the one thing Paris has going for her(she was a working model after all), but why do people find her mess of a life so interesting? WAIT, I know, people love watching a disaster happen. Pretty much everything she's done has been a disaster, a disastrous couple of movies, a poor CD, and suprise suprise, a TV show that shows how much of a vapid mess she is!

So what happens now is a real disaster, and I wonder why her parents haven't stepped in, is a telling tale. WHERE are her parents?? Are they worried at all about there reputation, are they thinking "If we stay away will they only focus on Paris and forget us?" Sadly this has been the case so far, but it can't be good for business at the chain of Hilton hotels worldwide.

Now her most recent events involve an inability to drive, and a complete lack of remorse and respect. Paris has been found guilt of(being a whore:)) violating the terms of her probation by driving on a suspended license. In September, Paris Hilton was arrested for drunk driving and, after pleading no contest in January, Paris was sentenced to three years probation and had her license suspended. It was only a month later that Paris got behind the wheel at night and forgot to turn her headlights on. Now when her sentencing came up, she arrived 15-20 minutes late. Howz that for lack of respect for the courts? So the judge imposed a 46 day prison sentence ..... good for him! It has since been cut to 23 days, but let's hope she learn a little something about respect and being an responsible adult.

OH, what did she say when she came out of the court room?

"I told the truth yesterday. I feel that I was treated unfairly and that the sentence is both cruel and unwanted and I don't deserve this." Unwanted?? think she meant unwarranted? We'll never know:-)

She also thought it was OK to drive as long as it's for work HUH!

She also turned to to religion in an attempt to appease the courts and maybe get out of jail time. Seems the courts love somebody trying to change themselves. Honestly, who believes she's changing her ways HA HA c'mon now!

Britney Lynn Spears

O girl of little singing ability why have panties forsaken thee!

Now really, let's see what Britney has done wrong

.Shotgun "Vegas" marriage to some guy long since forgotten!

.Pictures of a pantyless Britney seen worldwide, with a nice C-section scar!
.2 children with a guy that has no redeeming qualities, and a second marriage!

.A failed reality show with same said guy
.Pictures of Britney driving with her first kid ON HER LAP!
. A head shaving incident that left Britney completely bald.

I'm sure there is more, I just can't remember it all.

Although I'd be more than happy to see Britney fade off into trailer park bliss, she's attempting a comeback. OK, enough is enough, Britney, you're a good dancer, you WERE hot(B.K. ...Before Kevin), but you can barely hold a tune, a people like you have a short shelf life, just because you've outlived you're best before date doesn't mean you're still a viable entity... time moves on and so should you!

 Lindsay Lohan

Child of little singing talent with an ability to act, why must you implode so early?

WHERE oh WHERE are Lindsay's handlers? Her Mom is a complete enabler, and is much too interested in her own spotlight over her child's health and welfare, and says that Lindsay is just showing the indiscretions of youth.

WHY  haven't her handlers warned her about her self destructive nature? In the last year she has pulled out of 3-4 different projects and got a stern letter from the producer warning her about her complete lack of professionalism(she was showing up late or not at all) on the set of the just released Georgia Rule. She's also been into and out of rehab a coupla times. I guess I can blame a little of that on the club owners for letting an underage person drink, and the cops not charging her, but really  this girl needs friends that will tell her how it is!

Many people think she's trying to kill herself, seems so! It also seems like she completely missing any true friends or good healthy same age influences. Hollywood is known for it's excess, and Lindsay is the poster child.

The most recent event has Lindsay crashing her($120 000) Mercedes into a tree, she was drunk and there was evidence of cocaine in the vehicle .... charges are pending.

Now I'm the first to say that Lindsay went from a hot 18 year old to an old 40 year old, I also agree that She's got some solid acting chops. Kind of like John Belushi and his comedy chops, but we all know what happened to him!

Let's hope Lindsay gets some REAL help(not L.a. based rehab.... gimme a break), I look forward to her movies in 10 years. All she needs is some real friends and good handlers, but it seems she has neither right now.

END POST!

Days from deportation

I'm not too sure who's seen the news regarding an Chinese lady that has been fighting to stay in Canada so her Daughter can grow up with an eduction and not as a social pariah.

So why am I so upset about her fighting to stay? It's not that she's fighting, it's that  she went through every step to become a citizen and failed, every step! she's been denied. So did she go quietly? NOPE, conveniently after trying to stay here by herself since 1997(yep!) she got preggies in March or April 2006 and now she's using that as a pawn to stay.
See, in China having a child out of wedlock is a NO NO, you lose the ability to get a free education for your child, along with health care, and citizenship.

Thankfully the government isn't falling for it .......Don't  let the door hit ya!

Oh, here's the full article.

END POST!

   Doing 110 KPH in a 60 with 2 cars ISN't racing ..... since when?

You know, this crap really pisses me off. 2 rich kids driving Mommy and Daddies expensive vehicle, crashing into a cabby doing more than 110KPH, and the judge says there was no criminal intent! OH my, since when is killing somebody with a car NOT considered  serious? Since all these guys got was only 1 year house arrest, 4 years no driving, and 150 hours community service. they also have a 2 year(less a day) suspended sentence, but are still allowed to go to school and work while they complete the sentence.

Sure the list sounds long, but it's all minor stuff, and what about the cabby that was 3-4 days from becoming a citizen hoping for a better life for his family?

OH, you'll love this one!

Here's the timeline, starting on Mothers Day

12:40 A call from Allison(my Sister) tell me "we're heading to lunch, then we'll change my daughter and head to the park"

1:10 I  head over to the park figuring they wouldn't be more than 10 minutes away(40 minutes for lunch and a diaper change)

At this point I pull my camera out and play with my new lens about 30 seconds, I'm curious about the exposure, and getting ready to take some shots of 2 of my nieces

I quickly decide that this may not look good, so I put the camera in the back seat and decide to clean up my car a little

1:40

What I notice next is a little attempt at covert opps by a female parent of couple of kids playing in the park. Right then I figure I'm being watched, what I also figured that one of them(the husband was there barely listing his head the whole time) would walk up and tell me that they are uncomfortable with the length of time I was sitting there and the fact that I had a camera on me. That NEVER happened.

So the Mother walks away towards the houses, and the Father continues reading the paper. 10 minutes she comes back with her van. About 5 minutes after that Karen(my other Sister) comes by with an update about how long they would be. You, I needed to get some sleep before work, but I also wanted to see my nieces.

2:05 ..Everybody is there except Al and her youngest daughter.

Not 10 minutes later a Cop pulls up .... Suprise Suprise ... I had to laugh, since when my sister had shown up for an update I joked about them calling the cops.

I won't tell you the rest of the story, but leave it as fact that I am the last person to get excited(or stressed) about things. Other people weren't that "easy going"

Anyways,I have questions for you parents out there.

What would you have done? would you confront me? what sequence would you do things in? How long would you have waited before  confronting me??

ME? well since I don't have kids here's what I would do if I did.

NOTHING for first 30 minutes but watch and see if he's taking photos of my children. If he did, I'd confront him right away, AND call the cops. If he wasn't taking pictures I'd wait a few more minutes and I'd walk up and  express my concern about a guy, alone, sitting in front of a playground, and I may even ask him(nicely) why he's been sitting so long. I'd also take his plate down  just in case. Now if he were to leave, I'd call the cops, but if he stayed and his family shows, I'd forget the whole situation.

Would anybody do something different??

Did they act wrongly in this situation? YEP!

Why do I say this? because I'd expect some respect from people. Chances are extremely small that he was a "bad person". It also showed a little bit of possible voyeurism by the parents, like hiding in your house watching from you bedroom and gossiping about what your bad things your neighbours kids are doing behind their backs without confronting the parents. Shows some balls and walk up to the person and ask, somebody doing nothing wrong would understand.

So was I pissed off they called the cops? NO

Was I pissed of that they didn't show enough common courtesy to come and tell me they felt uncomfortable YEP

Have I lost a little more my sense of community and some respect for the way in which society is headed YEP!

The Juice

Ya know something, I know some people, and a few of them are teachers, but NONE of them would ever think what happened in Tennessee ... here's the story.

US teachers stage mock gun attack

Teachers at a US school have been criticised after staging a fake gun attack during a class trip, telling children it was not a drill.

Many of the 69 pupils, aged about 11, were reduced to tears when they were told to hide under tables and keep quiet as a gunman was on the loose.

Parents of the children, who attended Scales Elementary school in Tennessee, were said to be furious at the "stunt".

The school spoke of "poor judgment" but did not comment on disciplinary action.

Students on the week-long school field trip had been told to expect a "campfire prank" but the mock attack went too far, local education officials said in a statement on Sunday.

'We flipped out'

The incident lasted about five minutes and was intended to be a learning experience, said the school's assistant principal, Don Bartch, who led the trip.

"We got together and discussed what we would have done in a real situation," AP news agency quoted Mr Bartch as saying.

One pupil said the lights went out and about 20 children started to cry. A teacher, wearing a hooded jumper, also pulled at a locked door.

"I was like 'Oh My God.' At first I thought I was going to die. We flipped out," said 11-year-old pupil Shay Naylor.

The move angered many of the children's parents - especially in the light of last month's massacre at Virginia Tech university, where a student killed 32 people and himself.

"The children were in that room in the dark, begging for their lives, because they thought there was someone with a gun after them," said Brandy Cole, whose son was on the trip.

The director of schools is to decide what action - if any - should be taken against the staff involved.

...........................

Really, would anybody think that this is the right thing to do?? Sure I understand the need to prepare children, but what happened to asking the parent permission? Why not ask the police to come into the classroom for a discussion before such an event? What about doing preparedness training and then have a simulation right afterwards>> seems too simple I guess!

What's worse is that some of the children will be so traumatized that they may need help ....damn do I feel sorry for the kids .... and what about the parents?

I hope they all lose their jobs

The Juice

I was wondering if some people have a problem with just leaving people alone.

OK, so O.J. Simpson goes into a restaurant with a group of people and is asked to leave by the owner because of what he did, how he affected somany other people, and how little remorse he shows. So less than a week later this story appears in the paper, and it really shows who he is!.... What's funny is he was a gentleman when he was leaving the restaurant, and stated that he understood ....

"Last week, Galanter(O.J. Simpsons lawyer) had said his client's ejection was about race, and that he intended to pursue the matter and might go after the restaurant's liquor licence.

Seems like a typical lawyer doesn't it. I guess an owner doesn't have the right to refuse to serve anybody anymore, especially if you're coloured!

Oh, that "race card" thing, c'mon folks, the only people you are making look bad are yourselves!

Updated my post about my Top ten for 2006

Some have moved right off the list,Take a look!

It's the end of the world as I know it, and I feel fine!

"About the time of the end, a body of men will be raised up who will turn their attention to the prophecies, and insist upon their literal interpretation, in the midst of much clamour and opposition." Sir Isaac Newton

Does that sound a little like the current state of things in our world? Maybe a few politicians feeling the need to turns things back a millenia or two. Maybe a group of people that are completely intolerant to anything but what they have been taught. Yep, take a book literally! and people die over something that silly.

Now, if you believe in "The teachings", or "The good book" .... well good for you. In general they offer a good way to structure your life, but they aren't to be considered the only "right" way to go through life. Most of the conflicts we have are based on religious beliefs ..The problem is that people take these book literally or make up literal meaning to justify themselves.

UGH!

My position

.Use protection!
.Think of ADOPTION before ABORTION...remember that lots of people can't have children and this would be quite a gift!
.Stem cells AREN't a baby!

.Be good to others!

That is all!

OH, WAIT, about the world ending!

Doesn't it appear that we are a few short years from complete chaos? you already see it happening now, the only difference is the "it'll never happen to me" attitude most people have nowadays. That and the fact that people don't have any interest in anything else but themselves and the game of "whoever has the most wins!". I wonder why people think that life is about what they own. Sure, I like toys, but when I wake up in the morning I don't think about "making my mark", at least not financially. As long as people remember me when I leave, remember when I laughed, cried and sung a song WAY off key, that's all that matters!

Haven't we all noticed the wild ways in which this world is changing, and at an every increasing rate? How habitats are being eaten up by development? How every bit of this earth is being scavenged for anything we can use, with almost no thinking as to the reprocussions. How the climate is warming up at 10x the rate it was 50 years ago. How the polar ice caps and the glaciers may be all gone in our lifetime, and how the gulf stream is showing some very disturbing trends to do with warming and movement of the currents.

Can you say mini ice age .... or maybe an accidental nuke that destroys a huge portion oif the worlds population. I don't think the question is will it happen it WHEN!

Howz this for a headline? How many years until we've destroyed everything this planet has?

'Only 50 years left' for sea fish

"There will be virtually nothing left to fish from the seas by the middle of the century if current trends continue, according to a major scientific study."http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6108414.stm

and I really thought the end of the world had to do with Britney Spears recent breakdown:-)

Top 10 movies of 2006

Firstly, let me say Happy New Year and Happy Birthday to my Mom, she would have been 67 this year.

Top 10 movie releases of 2006

I see about 30 movies a year, and I've wittled it down to a top ten where the top 5-6 deserve to be there, but the next few can be moved up and down within the top 15.

10. Babel

I still prefer Crash, but this is a good flick in the same vein, too bad Brad Pitt shows his somewhat limited acting abilities as lead.

9. Children of men

We're talking about a very dark story involving the worst time in the possible future along with the brightest.

8. The Descent

Scary, claustrophobic, and original, but don't blame me if you say "is that Gollum"?

7. Little Miss Sunshine

A strange ensemble movie that'll have you laughing at the strangest family of the year.

6.V for Vendetta

Great movie based on a true story, well acted and shot, just long enough, and Natalie Portman is always worth seeing.

5. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

This guy takes a stab at every religious-economic-cultural doctrine that the people of the U.S. hold dear(and some they don't) ....it's hilarious!

4. Pan's Labyrinth

Didn't expect a war story as much as a fantasy, but I ending up loving it anyways.

3. Blood Diamond

Leonardo DiCaprio in his best acting roll so far in the top 10(hint hint) is the lead in this flick about diamond mining in South Africa, but the real star is Djimon Hounsou at a father looking to reunite his family. Jennifer Connolly is also quite strong in this flick, and hasn't looked better in the last 10 years.

2. The Departed

Now this was tough, I had some real problems with the excessive violence but move it near the top because there isn't a bad actor in this whole movie, and the story is compelling. Too bad the end isn't quite perfect, but I digress. I will say that Jack Nicholson still remains the actor people love that I just don't get. WHY? who knows.

1. Casino Royale

I never thought this would be my #1, but I have been looking for Bond to return to "the good old days" where Bond was more about Jmaes Bond and not the gadgets, and I finally got that. I really wish they left Pierce Brosnan as Bond though ....too late now I guess.

The rest of my top 18(!) includeThe Lakehouse, Clerks 2, Rocky, Lucky Number Slevin, Stranger Than Fiction, Nanny McPhee,Slither(YEP!), and Silent Hill(more for promise than for execution).

Brent
